1. Quicktime *.MOV format is the preferred format. (atleast mine)
* Convert all available format to *.mov
* VOB format is the most difficult to work with since most of the video editing software doesn’t support VOB format
* Avoid “Finalizing” the footage from the camera. Raw video is better if that can be exported to any format other than VOB
* Minimize AVI formats since the scanning technology in AVI is interlaced and editing becomes complicated at times
* MPEG format is acceptable but the clarity of the video is not as good as MOV
* Avoid DAT formats since it occupies a lot of hard drive space
* WMV is acceptable but not portable to most of the software. Make sure your video editing software supports WMV format
2. Working with smaller clips are comfortable
* Record clips with short duration
* Split clips to 5 mins max. duration so that its easy to clip if the video is of longer duration
3. Project management is very important
* Create different folders for original video footage and the working footage
* Create folders for the audio files (if any) that you are currently working on
* Save the workspace in well disciplined manner on the hard drive
* Always make it a habit to save the workspace
* Save your workspace every 5 mins to avoid any crashes or loss of data
* When working on a longer project make it a habit of taking daily backups to another hard drive
* Follow PMLC (Project management Life Cycle). Be process oriented.
